The Toyota Portland Cup

The Finale.  Where better to finish up the USGP season than in Portland, OR - home to some of the top athletes in the sport.  Last year's race was cold, miserable, rainy and CRAZY FUN.  It was a day that saw the local coffee establishment to run out of beans. Year in and year out, Portland offers up the crowds of afficianados and epic conditions that people expect from the sport of 'cross and provides a true test to the amateur and pro athlete alike and this year is sure to offer more of the same. Then, when the racing is done, kick back and enjoy one of Portland's famous and tasty microbrews and toast the end of a satisfying season!

Brad Ross, local organizer for the USGP of Cyclocross's Toyota Portland Cup says about his course:

We are using the same course as the 2004 Nationals.  It's relatively flat and offers spectators a wide open view of almost the entire course from the infield at Portland International Raceway.  There are rolling sections and lots of trees.  As in the past, we expect that having our race in December means that the weather is going to play a huge role in the outcome here. There are lots of berms that we'll be using as run-ups and lots of trees and roots to navigate.  When it's muddy, and it's always muddy, the rider who handles the slippery, muddy technical sections the best is the person who will win the race. Even a little mistake on the technical climbing sections could cost somebody the race. It's happened before!
